Sheridan College Open House 2010 (Part 3)

Here is the third and final batch of caricatures I drew during Sheridan's Open House a couple weeks ago. These first two ladies pictured are Sheridan office staff, Susan Anderson-Wilcox and Paulette Geffros:

These last three are Sheridan students, Leisha-Marie Riddel, Omar Noori, and Hai Wei Hou:

Looking at all of your stuff, I realize how little thought I give to hair when I try to draw someone. It's not that I don't concentrate on it or try to get it accurate, but I usually don't address it till I've gotten most of the features already nailed down. Now I wonder if your approach is to tackle the hair, which seems to so often define much of the head, much earlier than I do.

I've said before and I'll say again, you find the beauty in everyone! I suspect it's all the round flowing forms- everyone is so supple and soft looking. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us so often.

Hey Eric,
The only thing I do consciously regarding the hair is to block it in with the head in the beginning stages of the drawing. After all, the hair really does frame and help to define the shape of the face. At that point it's easier to see how the facial features should be placed relative to each other and the visible area of the face. Working out the flow and texture of the hair is still the last thing I do, though, after figuring out the face design.
