Well, What Ju'no - It's Ellen Page!

In just a short time from now the Academy Awards is about to begin. I'll be tuning in as is my annual ritual, of course! Though I'm afraid I have no caricatures of any of this year's nominees to post, I will instead offer up this one I did of last year's nominee for Best Actress, Ellen Page as "Juno". This was drawn just a couple days ago in honour of Miss Page's birthday which was yesterday. Such a cute kid!

Anyway, I have to go now and get ready for the Oscars. Here's the trailer for "Juno":

  2. It's definitely an adorable likeness, but I didn't get it right off the spot. I'm sure you had a reason for not drawing her with a protruding tummy, which would have clued me in. The worried look is endearing, though I found her to be more of a tough cookie. The soundtrack to that film was very nice, and I liked the animated opening title.

  3. Hi Kelly,

After your comment I took a fresh look at it and wondered if the way I had drawn her eyebrows was what was giving her that "worried look". I've since redrawn them and adjusted the finished image, but those upward arching eyebrows do seem to still give that impression. Oh well.

I had originally considered drawing her in a waist up shot with striped shirt over the "baby bump", as in the publicity stills, but decided instead to focus on just drawing Ellen Page as opposed to something too specific to "Juno", though she's obviously still portrayed in that role because of what she's wearing.

  4. Actually, that did a lot to improve the likeness. I understand your reasoning for wanting to draw the actress for herself, and not for the story in the fill.

That particular orange color is one of my favorites, I'm wearing a rust orange sweater right now (hurry up spring!!)

  6. That's a great renderng of Ellen Page. That's how she'd look if someone made a "Juno" Saturday Morning cartoon.

  8. I find this incredible and adorable at the same time! You nailed her likeness with the most simplistic lines and shapes!!! Unbelieveable!!!
You made that high forehead, innocent-sad-and kind of confused expression!
    Awesome Pete, Awesome!

  9. Oh wow! It definitely is!! I am trying to draw some caricatures.. and when I saw Ellen Page's photograph I couldn't really understand what I could do to cartoonize her! And that's when I hit this page!! So, she IS pretty 'cartoonizable'!
