One Of My Reeses Pieces

Well, actually, my ONLY Reese piece, at least in finished form anyway, although I went through several rough attempts before I thought I was getting closer. Reese Witherspoon was the NCN birthday subject about a week ago, but I didn't get my picture done on time to post it on that day. I watched my DVD of "Legally Blonde" in order to do the sketch, although it went through several revisions at the pencil stage before I committed it to the ink and colour version you see here. She was actually much harder to draw than I thought she'd be, and I'm still not sure it's as good as I'd like but I'm posting it here anyway.

  1. Yeah I think its really good, but I don't know if you captured her in this drawing. Before I read the title of the post, I had no idea who she was.

    still, a very aweseome drawing.

    2 thumbs ups

  2. Hi Andrew,

Once in a while I run up against an elusive likeness. Such is the case with Reese Witherspoon, I'm afraid. I think the problem may be with her eyes. The funny thing is, she actually has a really interesting face - slightly concave with that jutting chin, so I figured she'd be easy to capture. Many aborted sketches later, I'm not so sure...

  3. Hey Pete! Yea, i get those moments where I can't get the likeness in my caricatures either. Although I'm sure I experience it way more than you. It's an awesome drawing nonetheless and still resembling Reese!

  4. Bull's eye!
She kinda reminds me of "Darla Dimple" from "Cats Don't Dance"

Also, I posted a clip from "The Body in Question" which sheds light on why we exaggerate, I think you'll like it.

  5. Hmm, I thought it was Jenny McCarthy at first glance. Maybe on account of the chest being fairly prominent. There is a definite Reese likeness in there though.

  8. Awesome work again Pete! I knew who it was immediately. It very much reminds me of a scene from Family Guy a little while ago, where one of the characters uses Reese's pointy chin to cut through a vault door!

  9. For the record, the comment above that I just deleted was posted by an impostor pretending to be somebody else. I do not appreciate that and view it as the work of a pathetic coward who has nothing of any importance to say.

  10. I've always thought of her as making that "sucking on a lemon" face.

Thanks, your caricatures are most inspirational and instructive nfor an artist who's not naturally a people person, but is slowly working on getting it right.
